Yaoi Magazine?

I was wondering what had happened to the Yaoi Magazine? A while ago I tried contacting them, but I didn’t receive a response? I’m guessing they’ve went on a hiatus. Or they could have gone out of business, I don’t know. If anyone knows what’s going on let me know.

I haven’t done these in a while, so I thought I breakdown and do another one. Fujisaki Kou should be recognized because she’s written many mangas in various genres. But mostly smut and yaoi. Her works include Virgin Love, which I’m in the middle of reading. She has also written Boku no Super Hero, Delicious Boy, King and Prince, and Men’s Love.

I’m going to look for more of her works and possibly review them.

Now I know many of you by now are sick and tired of all the articles on the reasons why straight women enjoy yaoi. I think we’ve come to a point now where we can stop writing about the reasons. I mean, it’s not something that should spend time focusing on. I think it’s been established now that there are a variety of reasons why women (and even a few men) like yaoi. But I guess it’s very difficult for some people to see why. Women enjoying the site of two guys having sex, preposterous!!

For those new to anime

When I first got into anime, I picked the book entitled Anime Explosion: The What? Why? & Wow of Japanese Animation by Patrick Drazen. For me, this was the first book that explained anime in a scholarly sense. But I feel it lacked in a lot of ways, since I’m a yaoi fan, I was particular interested in the chapter entitled “A Very Pure Thing:” Gay and Pseudo-Gay Themes in Anime. This chapter went over the homoerotic themes that is found in anime as well as briefly discussing shonen ai and shojo ai. Drazen does an adequate job of going over these genres, but doesn’t really get into them in depth. Other chapters cover Hentai, war and anti-war themes, and even an essay on Revolutionary Girl Utena.

I do appreciate the way the book is structured and how it covers different types of anime. It just suffers from the lack of going in depth.
Overall, I think this is a good book for those who are beginners in anime, despite its’ flaws.

Another post about why women like yaoi

Except this time, the reason is biological. If you haven’t noticed by now, most theories as to why women enjoy yaoi never seem to about biological arousal. Here’s a post over at anime vice talking about this very same thing.

There have been countless discussions online about why, exactly, girls are so damn into yaoi and/or slash. I’ve been a part of many of them– I even explored it in-depth at The Escapist –and more recently, ANN’s ” Chicks On Anime” panel discussed the topic as well. However, all of us pretty much talk about it from a purely psychological standpoint.

TokyoPop releasing new Yaoi

According to the About Manga page, there is a list of new manga, specifically new yaoi manga that will be released next year! Sounds exciting.

For their third TokyoPop Insider webcast, Senior Editor Lillian Diaz-Pryzbyl and Marketing Manager Kasia Piekarz opted to broadcast the show live from their panel at New York Anime Festival 2009 at Jacob K. Javits Center, New York City. While they had their share of technical glitches, they persevered and presented 13 new manga titles, showed video clips and answered questions from fans who were there in person and watching the show from the Internet.

TokyoPop’s new manga announced for 2010 could probably be summed up in three groups:

* New original graphic novels with movie tie-ins
* New Japanese manga titles, including a few from some fan-favorite artists
* New boys love / yaoi manga titles from TokyoPop’s BLU imprint
